Oscar de la Renta VS. Cathy Horn

15 Sep

Just when we thought that New York Fashion Week was over and behind us, a verbal feud has broken out between designer Oscar de la Renta and New York Times writer Cathy Horyn. While the most recent development occurred just yesterday morning, it seems like this was a year in the making.

Last year:

The bad blood might have started last year when Horyn left the designer off her list of must-see shows in New York, while younger brands like Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung were mentioned. De la Renta then gave Women’s Wear Daily his reaction:

“It bothers me because I love my industry, and I love fashion. I think fashion is something of beauty and it really makes me mad when someone writes about fashion in a bitter way.”

Fast forward to this season:

De la Renta showed his spring 2013 collection earlier this week, and Horyn gave it mixed reviews.

“Mr. de la Renta is far more a hot dog than an éminence grise of American fashion. He opened his lively show on Tuesday with a red latex pencil skirt, a sleek ivory wool pantsuit and dairymaid lace. The models’ hair was streaked with war paint, and midway along, after bead-quivering jackets and neon-bright skirts, he sent out white lace with black pencil-like scribbles. It was wonderfully cantankerous, a good bit of window-dressing for the gooey stuff that followed.”

Finally yesterday morning:

Oscar de la Renta fired back with an open letter to the writer in WWD

His most meaningfull quote is:“I respect and accept criticism because in many ways it does help us develop; I try to make my work better each time. What I do not accept is when criticism is personal. If you have the right to call me a hot dog why do I not have the right to call you a stale 3-day old hamburger? My advice to you is to abstain from personal criticism. Professionals criticize the clothes, not the people.”

Kelly Osbourne to Design Plus-Size Clothes

15 Sep

When it comes to fashion , Kelly Osbourne always seems to keep in real–but in a sweet and upbeat manner. Which really isn’t saying much because, let’s face it, silver-tongued Joan Rivers could make anyone seem soft and cuddly, right?

Still,  Osbourne comments on any given celebrities’ outfit, so naturally, when E! spotted her out and about during New York’s Fashion Week, they couldn’t wait to ask her about her own style and body image.

“No one takes notice of a fat girl in fashion,” she said of her own weight when she was a teen.

And as she continued to rant about plus-sized fashion she accidentally let slip to us that she was coming up with her own fashion line.

“My style has evolved because I grew up. People forget that I was fifteen when I started out on The Osbournes and I’m 28 next month. Scary! Scary! So it’s just great that over the years I’ve learned from my mistakes.” says Kelly.

“You know I was having fun back then but no one takes notice of a fat girl in fashion. That’s the truth! It’s sad. That’s why I love women like Beth Ditto who are doing their own clothes. That’s why when my line comes out I’ll never make anything that won’t be translated to plus-size as well. Because everyone deserves to wear fashion.” Kelly Osbourne reveals…
